Hilsa fish:
Bangladesh is now the first in the world in the production of hilsa fish. Bangladesh is third in the world in fish production.*
The national fish of Bangladesh is Hilsa. Bangladesh has achieved great success in hilsa production. Bangladesh has strengthened its top position in the production of this delicious fish. Currently, 86 percent of the world's total hilsa is produced in this country. Just four years ago this production rate was 65 percent. This is known as of this month from the international fisheries organization Worldfish. The rate at which the production of hilsa has increased in Bangladesh has not increased compared to the production of the neighboring countries. Hilsa production has decreased in India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. India ranks second in the production of hilsa after Bangladesh. Five years ago, about 25 percent of the world's hilsa was produced in the country. However, this year their production has dropped to about 10 and a half percent. Myanmar, which is in the third position, has produced as much as 3 percent. The remaining hilsa is produced in Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Pakistan. A two-day international research conference was held in India last Wednesday and Thursday. One of the topics of discussion there was how the production of hilsa increased in Bangladesh. Prof. Abdul Wahab, team leader of Ecofish project of Worldfish Bangladesh presented the main article in the conference. In the research paper of Professor Wahab, it is said that the hilsa habitats that Bangladesh has created in various rivers have consistently increased the production of this fish.
