Traffic will move from Anwara to Chittagong city through South Tube and from Chittagong to Anwara through North Tube. The remaining work on the other of the two tubes will be completed by December. Although the construction of the tube is over, electrical, mechanical and other works are still left. After completion of these works, it may take till January for the tunnel to be ready for traffic. If everything goes well, traffic will be able to move through the tunnel in February.

It is known that the tunnel is being constructed at a cost of 10 thousand crores. It is the first tunnel in South Asia to be built under a river. The government took the tunnel project to connect the two banks of Karnaphuli to build 'one city to town' on the model of Shanghai in China. The length of the main tunnel with two tubes is 3.32 km. The length of the tunnel tube is 2.45 kilometers and the inner diameter is 10.80 ๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ.


On February 24, 2019, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the boring work of the first tunnel tube. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the work of the second tube on December 12, 2020.
